WELCOME to Mr. T’s Music Page
Elementary music is so much more than just an elective. We try to incorporate different aspect of music classes to give the students a little experience of everything. The students will learn how to play/care for instruments, tunefully sing, rhythmically dance. All while also learning how to improvise and compose music. In addition, the students are learning about music history and theory and creating music each and every day in different ways.
A quick overview of what each grade level experiences in every year:
- tuneful singing
- steady beat
- dynamics
- tempos
- instrument families
- rhythms
- melodies
- Bucket drumming
- Recorders
- Orff Instrument
- Group ensembles
My ideology of teaching music at the elementary level is this:
- Music is part of what makes us human.
- Music gives all people an equal chance for expression.
- Music lasts a lifetime.
- Music teaches people valuable life skills. It requires commitment. It teaches co-operation, teamwork and patience.
- Music teaches body awareness and eye-hand coordination through clapping, stamping and playing an instrument.
- Music provides children with a means of self-expression.
- All the arts provide children with a glimpse of other cultures and teaches them to be empathetic towards the people of these cultures. This development of compassion empathy, and respect of other races at an early age.
