At Barton Hills, all sixth-grade students have the opportunity to participate in band or orchestra. We feel that band and orchestra are important opportunities for sixth graders to get involved in music and expand their musical horizons. Through band or orchestra, students can gain valuable teamwork skills, encourage creative expression, and foster a life-long appreciation of music.
In addition, participating in ensemble activities teaches students life skills such as responsibility, discipline, time management and cooperation. Furthermore, band and orchestra promote an increased understanding of music theory, which helps develop analytical and problem-solving skills. This is beneficial for academic subjects outside of the music world.
